COURAGE SCHOOL LESSON PLANS

To make the Courage Child Protection & Empowerment training material accessible in the school environment, we have developed a range of lesson plans that can be run over standard school lesson times of between 30 and 60 minutes.  Each theme below has an introductory presentation for the teacher to present to their class and then a lesson plan booklet that can be completed individually or in groups by learners.

CHILD PROTECTION LESSON PLAN

The School Presentation explains what child protection is, why it is important, what children’s rights are, and the child protection process to be followed in the event of any forms of child abuse, neglect or exploitation. There is also a fun interactive rights and responsibilities game that you can play at the end of the presentation. Please download the presentation below and be sure to read the speaker notes to help you present.

The School Lesson Plan Workbook can be printed out in colour or black and white (back-to-back pages) and completed in class by learners (aged 12 and above). It explains what child protection is and why it is so important. It helps learners to create a vision for a safe world. It helps them to identity the child protection challenges taking place in their community, and the people they should be partnering with to keep them safe, using the Courage Community Map. It also illustrates the child protection process to be undertaken in the event of any form of child abuse, neglect or exploitation. Please download the school lesson plan workbook below.

CONSENT, SEX, PREGNANCY & OPTION COUNSELLING

The School Workshop Presentation introduces the importance of creating a personal vision for our future, whilst understanding our sexual and reproductive health rights. It explains the process of puberty, consent, sex, birth control, conception and pregnancy, and encourages learners to define the actions they should take to achieve their personal vision. It then encourages learners to identify the causes of unplanned or crisis pregnancy in their community and what can prevent this. It explains the options available to someone experiencing an unplanned or crisis pregnancy and then asks learner to identify the partners they will need to help them achieve their personal vision.
