Each child protection challenge is illustrated on a card using a scenario and an icon in the Courage Toolkit. Each challenge, their drivers and consequences are also explained in more detail using smaller icons at the top of each card (See examples of the cards on this post).
You use these cards to identify and prioritise the child protection challenges that are happening in your community, by writing down each challenge and then ranking them on a scale of 1 to 10 (1 is ‘not a concern’, 5 is of ‘medium concern’ and 10 is of ‘highest concern’) in terms of their impact on your community (see the strategy template picture on this post). Not only will this help you to rank the most important challenges you face currently, if you do this exercise on an annual basis, it will become a useful bench-marking tool, to see how your community's child protection challenges are evolving over time.
Once you have identified the most important child protection challenges in your community, it makes it easier to select the child protection strategies and empowerment tools you will need to to address these issues.
